The article touches upon the problem of formation of physical education competence in future subject teachers. It is said that physical-pedagogical activity of a teacher serves as a social necessary approach in professional activities. As it was showed in the analysis of the scientific studies there are many subjective and diverse matters in the unveiling the essence, functions and organization of the physical pedagogical activity.The generalization of the available facts gave on opportunity to distinguish a great number of its bases: the classification of manifestations, the system of realizations, the content, principles, functions, the organization, the characteristics of achievements. The consideration of indicated bases make it possible for authors to be determined (theoretically and practically) in the concept of essence, in the concept of regulation, in the concept of an appreciation of the teacher of not sports spesialities’s results of sports and pedagogical activity. On the basis of the undertaken investigation the authors suggest ways to optimize the process of physical education of universities in the system of unspecialized physical education. The main advantage of a new model is a variety of using different means of physical education.
