THE FIRST CITYWIDE SCIENTIFIC AND PRACTICAL CONFERENCE «GENIUS LOCI: RUSSIAN WRITERS ABOUT EUROPEAN CITIES»

Abstract

The citywide Scientific and Practical Conference «Genius loci: Russian writers about European cities» was held 7th April, 2015 at the department of Russian and Foreign philology of the faculty of the Humanities of Minin Nizhny Novgorod State Pedagogical University. Conference was devoted to the analysis from different perspectives of the literary image of the city. The conference covered a wide range of issues related to national images of European countries, ways of their creation, consolidation and dissemination in the Russian cultural consciousness, the embodiment of European cities images, features of national character, history, culture, traditions and landmarks in the literature. “Foreign” space, reflected in different genre works of Russian writers, makes it possible for the participants - students of Minin University and high school students - to trace deep and multifaceted impact of European culture through real or virtual meeting with portrayed place.
