ABOUT THEOLOGICAL AND PHILOCOPHIC RESEARCH OF COLOUR IN ICON

Abstract

The paper under consideration makes an attempt of trying to find the sense of meaning and value foundations of colour in the iconic image. The investigation is based on the principle of the revelation of the religious, philosophical and theological foundations standing behind the iconic image as a whole, and behind its colour characteristics, in particularly. The key moment is acknowledgement of intercommunication between “theology of icon” and “practice of icon”, interaction of which is similar to simultaneous co-presence of one to another. Addressing to the paradigm of “theology of icon” the biblical traditions of perception of colour are considered in the article. It is also considered the concept of non-created light (Favorsky) which is maintained by the philosophers of “Silver Age”. These philosophical and theological theories about colour are discovered with direct graphic image. It is shown with the help of symbolic and semantic comparison of the colour of icon with theological concept of the “light of God” and through the description of range of colours of icon image with the parallel discovery of its spiritual and mystical meanings.
